Major Behind the scenes working

I must have spent about 8 hours solid on the site today. And it wasn't the 'fun' front end stuff either. It was the tedious database stuff.

The site is slowing down again. This is due to the database filling up, and becoming sluggish. So what I did today was break the database into different tables. One for the Featured Questions, and one which will act as an archive. What this means is that the main 'pot' of questions will reduce down to a few thousand rows and become light and nimble again.

The process is very gradual. I'm shifting the records across at a rate of about 20,000 a day, so the impact on the site won't be too noticible.

Right - time to get away from the PC!

I definitely noticed the changes as they were happening. I was at the site earlier today, and then ten minutes later I went back to the same page (My Questions) and noticed that my suggestion had been implemented! Thanks. Shortly after, I ran into several MySQL errors, and assumed that you were changing something.

How did you get so many questions so quickly? Where and how was the site launch announcement made?
